May is International Chick Lit Month. Let's be honest—it's the best month of the year! Every year, chick lit readers and writers get together to celebrate, share, discuss and gush about their favorite book genre. Not familiar with chick lit or Chick Lit Month? What's on Page 45?



       Do you ever flip to a random page in a book and read it, just to see if the book will pull you in? I do. I love wandering around book stores and checking out the bounty of incredible books at my fingertips. Don't get me wrong–I love my Kindle–but there's something about holding a book in your hands and devouring the words the way you used to as a kid. The feel of the crisp paper as you turn each page, the smell of the fresh print and the lure of the brand new adventure hoping to tempt you into finding a welcoming chair (and perhaps a mocha) and losing yourself for the afternoon.
But I digress! We’re clearly not in a book store, so we’ll have to do our page flipping virtually. I’m going to give you a sneak peek into French Twist, my debut novel, which tells the tale of the whirlwind romance I shared with my husband *gasp* nearly fourteen years ago. I met him while he was in the US on assignment from his Paris-based software company and my life hasn’t been the same since. On page 45, you will find the conversation I had with my sister after our first official date:

       “The man is the most amazing kisser ever. Never in my life have I experienced anything like it.”  I became breathless just from the memory of last night.

       “Oooh! When are you going to see him again?” She was pretty breathless herself.


        I still can’t catch my breath after he unleashes his signature kisses on me–just the right combination of tender and steamy. This swoon-worthy feeling HAD to be included in our epic love story. It’s the stuff dreams are made of! And there’s plenty more where that came from. Feast your eyes on this!

       Sydney Bennett had spent her life in pursuit of perfection. She planned, weighed her options and made careful choices based on calculated outcomes. Through all of her efforts, she had come pretty close to perfection, if she didn’t say so herself. She had fled the cold winters in New York for sunny California, found a job that she loved and lived in the same town as her sister, and best friend, Kate. The one area of perfection that had always eluded her was her love life. No matter how hard she tried, she always ended up with a broken heart. After a particularly traumatic breakup, Sydney vowed that she was done with love.

     Just as Sydney threw herself into her new plan to forget about men, a handsome Frenchman tossed all of her intentions out the window as he swept her off of her feet. Louis Durand had lived a life filled with excitement and adventure. He was impetuous, intelligent and incredibly charming. So naturally, he scared Sydney half to death. From the moment they met, Louis and Sydney’s romance progressed at warp speed. Sydney did her best not to run, but her deep rooted relationship anxiety threatened to provide an easy exit. When Louis mentioned marriage before Sydney even knew his favorite color, she was more than tempted to reach for her running shoes. Will she be able to put her fears aside to follow her heart? The one thing that Sydney will learn is that sometimes perfection comes with a twist...

Miss Chick Lit 2015



What if the lovably neurotic Sydney Durand were to enter a Pageant? Now's her chance, because the title of Miss Chick Lit 2015 is up for grabs! Prepare yourself, peeps, for the world will never be the same...

~~~Intro~~~

Hi! My name is Sydney Durand and I’m representing the great state of New York! I’m a 28 year-old Human Resources Representative who loves movies, 80s music and any dessert containing chocolate. My dream is to one day find a home for all the baked goods I make. The only person capable of helping me eat the contents of my production line is my father, but he lives three-thousand miles away. My good friend, Nigel, is a close second, but his eating prowess is far inferior to the great Theodore Bennett’s.

~~~Swimsuit~~~

I chose this swimsuit because it has a sexy neckline and black is slimming! My husband, Louis, often tells me what a rockin’ bod I have, but I don’t have the confidence to pull off a bikini. (As much as my friend, Maya, has tried to goad me into it.) I agreed to a two piece bathing suit and this surely qualifies!



~~~Talent~~~

My talent is organizing! Throw out the contents of your purse and I will make order out of it. Is your haphazard closet giving you a headache? I’ll wrangle everything back into place. Got jumbled thoughts? I’ll sit down with you and make a list. We’ll reorder everything and pack it back into your brain in a way that makes sense. But wait! There’s more! Need further possibilities for your doomsday thoughts? I have those in spades! No one can worry about the most distant, ridiculously impossible occurrences than I can! Let me share my well-honed talent with you. It will improve the quality of your freak outs immensely! May I have a volunteer from the audience?



~~~Interview~~~

Do you have a boyfriend/husband? If so, what does he think of you entering this pageant?

Louis thinks that I can do anything. It’s really rather alarming! I’ve gotten quite used to hiding from difficult tasks over the years, but now that he’s come into my life, I have to try to be brave. (Although I’ll never be as brave as he is. The man hasn’t met a dangerous sport he isn’t interested in trying.) He believes that if I put my mind to it, I can win Miss Chick Lit 2015. I believe that if I put my mind to it, I have a good chance of making it through the swimsuit competition without falling on my face. Tune in to see which one of us is right!

If by some miracle I win this competition, I hope to look (and behave) as graceful as the incomparable Audrey Hepburn.
